Irvine Tutor 5 Awesome Online Academic Tools to Use This Fall

Irvine Tutor 5 Awesome Online Academic Tools to Use This Fall Irvine Private Tutor Tips: 5 Awesome Online Academic Tools to Use This Fall There are so many great online tools students can use these days to help them adjust to going back to school. There are so many, in fact, that it can be difficult for parents and students to figure out which ones are helpful and which are just a waste of time. Its important to look for online tools that can help students stay organized and focused on their assignments without providing a distraction. Online tools should make life easier, not more complicated, and are useful if they can be used when a student is studying solo or in a group session. Online tools and include apps, websites, and communication tools that help a student complete assignments and study for exams. 1. Skype Skype is a fabulous online tool, especially for college students. Although Skype was not originally intended for education purposes, its a great way for students living in a dorm to keep in touch with their tutor or study group. Students can communicate with their high school tutor or work with a new tutor online to help them get organized and started in their new classes. Even if the tutor lives a few minutes from campus, the student might want a late-night emergency session or want to work in unusual increments of time while adjusting to their new schedule of classes. Also, if a college student had a fantastic study group while they were in high school, they might be able to keep in touch with academic superstars who are now studying at other schools. With todays technology, theres no reason students should limit themselves to what’s available on campus (READ: How to Handle Stress the First Months of High School). 2. Quizlet Quizlet and similar websites make creating flashcards and studying vocabulary terms much easier than it used to be. Whether a student is in the sixth grade or graduate school, Quizlet can be incredibly helpful when it comes to organization. Students can keep terms from earlier in the semester in a convenient online format, so they have everything pre-organized when it comes to studying for midterms and final exams. Additionally, students can easily share their Quizlet study set with other people in their class or study group. https://quizlet.com/ 3. Online Calculators Online calculators and calculator apps are pretty amazing these days. Students can access anything from a four function calculator to an advanced graphing calculator right at their fingertips. They wont have to worry about forgetting their graphing calculator at home or spending over $100 to get a handheld one. Although students will likely not be able to use an app on their cell phone during a quiz or exam, theres no reason why they cant use this technology to complete homework assignments. The quality of online calculators can vary so its a good idea to check them out early on in the term. 4. Grammarly Online Grammar Checker Online grammar checkers such as Grammarly can help students identify common errors as well as provide an explanation for why its wrong. This can help students who need to get their paper edited and hand it in ASAP, but it can also help students improve their writing over time. Because explanations are provided, students will be able to identify errors they make on a regular basis and improve their writing or identify what they need help with. The confidence that comes with being able to communicate effectively in the written word is invaluable from kindergarten through college (READ: 5 Resources to Organize as a High School Freshman). 5. Your Schools Online Communication Forum The most valuable, but often overlooked online tool is your school’s online communication system. Each school has a different name sometimes called Blackboard or MySite. This is an opportunity for students and parents to get in touch with the teacher and ask questions about assignment and grades. A student who keeps track of their grades will quickly learn which skills they already mastered and which ones they need to work on. Also, when students learn that grades are slipping, early on they have a chance to work with the teacher or a tutor and make an improvement before things get too out of hand. The beginning of the school year is arguably the most important time of the year when it comes to grades. Students who fall behind rarely catch up before the end of the semester. Start the year off strong with the help of private Irvine academic tutoring from TutorNerds. All blog entries, with the exception of guest bloggers, are written by Tutor Nerds. What Is Precipitation Chemistry?

What Is Precipitation Chemistry?Precipitation Chemistry is a rather important branch of Chemistry and has had a massive impact on all forms of research. For more than the last few centuries, researchers in this field have worked to understand the different elements that make up the whole universe, how they interact with each other and how they combine. They are involved in many types of experiments, ranging from simple methods of identification to those that carry out chemical and physical experiments. Whether you are an amateur or professional researcher, it is important to pay attention to all the aspects of precipitation chemistry.Precipitation can be defined as any type of process that occurs as a result of water. The most common type of this type of process is rain. Rain falls on the earth's surface and carries all the water necessary for plants, animals and people to survive. It also carries important nutrients such as sodium, potassium, calcium and nitrogen for the growth of p lants and animals. Although there are other processes that produce rain such as wind, gravity and pressure, it is essential that you understand the basics of precipitation.Precipitation chemistry deals with how elements react to one another when they come into contact with each other. This is a complex subject that has many variables and can be difficult to understand for even the best of scientists. Most meteorologists attempt to explain how precipitation occurs by taking several meteorological events and working out how all the elements of the atmosphere react to them. This is not always an accurate process, though, because some forms of precipitation may be entirely internal to a weather system, which can only be explained by examining this same system under a microscope. This explains why meteorologists need an understanding of precipitation in order to determine what the weather is going to be like. There are many different forms of precipitation and the way that they affect the environment. One form is called volcanic ash and it tends to fall as pebbles and ash on the ground. Volcanic ash is formed by volcanic eruptions, which occur on average every ten years. Other forms of precipitation include snowfall and hail. Hail is made up of silicates, which are similar to sodium chloride. Snowfall occurs when water vapor condenses and changes into a solid form, which leaves a thin layer of ice. There are many forms of precipitation that have a significant effect on the environment but very few of these are studied in detail in the scientific community. These include fog, haze, dust, smoke and rain. There are many different forms of precipitation that have a significant effect on the environment but very few of these are studied in detail in the scientific community. These include fog, haze, dust, smoke and rain. We are all familiar with water vapor, which is generally made up of oxygen and hydrogen gas. In addition to the water, the atmosphere consists of other g ases such as methane, ammonia and carbon dioxide. We can also take water vapor and convert it into a gas, or dry air. Air is made up of gas molecules that interact with one another in the process of compression and expansion. They are both made up of atoms, but atoms tend to move very quickly and they do not stay still for very long. When water vapor combines with other gases, it becomes a gaseous state. This occurs when it is in contact with other atoms, or when it finds itself in a gas that is already in motion. When we study precipitation, we do so because we want to understand the way that certain gases and particles interact with each other. The result of these interactions is a reaction. This is important because different gases have different effects on the environment. For example, the very cold air that forms a storm can be replaced by warm air that makes a storm more intense. When you study the relationship between water and other gases, you can learn a lot about these inter actions.

However, are you aware of how much of an impact some biological breakthroughs have had on our world?Biology plays a huge part in agriculture, medicine and even psychology. While many breakthroughs are a result of collective research and are as such the responsibility and fruition of various heads coming together and working hard on a common cause, there are still some individual biologists who deserve recognition for the influential work they have carried out. Here, we will take a look at some of the most respected of scientists within the field of Biology as well as some of the most innovative breakthroughs of this century, and  the last.Mid-Late 20th Century Biological DiscoveriesIVFIVF, or In Vitro Fertilisation goes back to the 1970s century when John Rock first extracted a fertilised egg and it became clear that this technology could be used to develop and later transfer eggs into the uterus. This exciting new technology meant the world for many infertile men a nd women, giving them the opportunity to get pregnant and have the chance at becoming a family. It was in 1979 that the first human baby was born through IVF after which many more birth stories emerged.A common scenario for infertile couples was to have a surrogate, who would be artificially inseminated using a kit containing the intended father's semen. In this case, the baby would have been conceived using the surrogate woman's egg. However, surrogacy opportunities moved on too and women were able to host eggs of the intended mother, or donated eggs, which meant that the carrier of the baby had no genetic link to the baby inside her womb. Though more expensive as an option, this was often the preferred choice for many surrogates as it is a situation they feel more comfortable with.During the early 90s, doctors experimented with freezing and thawing embryos which led to even more success for this scientific procedure.DNAWhile DNA was first discovered in the late 1800s, it was in 192 7 that scientists proposed that it was a ‘giant hereditary molecule’ made up of two strands.Later, around the beginning of the 1940s, a team of biologists (which included Oswald Avery, Colin MacLeod, and Maclyn McCarthy) identified the first facts displaying DNA’s specific role in hereditary, called the transforming principle, later verified in the 50s by the Hershey-Chase duo.It was during this decade that laboratories came up with the double-helix model of DNA structure that is familiar to us today.Find A level biology distance learning courses online.Scientists discovered the double-helix structure of DNA strands in the second half of the 20th century. Photo credit: M Pinarci via Visualhunt / CC BYWe now know far more about our genes and the role of DNA.For instance, we have discovered that DNA is made of twisted strands of the bases A, T, C and G and that genes are sections of this DNA. Each gene contains the code for creating a particular protein and the sequence of bases within the gene dictates which amino acids are created and joined to produce a new protein molecule.Mass Production Of PenicillinMeanwhile, in the 1940s, Alexander Fleming was the driving force behind the mass production of penicillin, a group of antibiotics which were, and still are, effective against numerous bacterial infections.Though Fleming dates his discovery of the medicine back to the 1920s, his findings were not initially given the attention they deserved and it wasn’t until the 1940s, when a team headed by Howard Florey began to mass-produce the drug for pharmaceutical companies. The three main investors in the discover, Florey, Ernst Boris Chain and Fleming shared the 1945 Nobel Prize in Medicine for their work.Check for A level biology courses online. While the late 1900s saw scientists discover how to help couples conceive by implanting embryos, major advancements in recent years mean that even women who have had their ovaries removed can still birth healthy children thanks to ovarian tissue transplants. Thanks to IVF, many infertile couples can now birth healthy babies. Photo credit: Faith @101 via VisualHunt / CC BY-SAFurthermore, while surrogates and  donors were the most efficient way to grow embryos for men and women struggling to conceive naturally, these surrogates and sperm and egg donors are being somewhat phased out now thanks to new technology that enables doctors to enhance women’s ability to produce healthy eggs and likewise men’s ability to contribute effective sperm. Now that the technology is more common in our everyday lives, IVF processes are often far cheaper than they once were, which means that more couples can experience the benefits of this life-changing technology. The Cloning Of Dolly The SheepOne breakthrough which you will no doubt learn about during the course of your studies is the cloning of Dolly the sheep. In 1996, scientists successfully cloned a female sheep for the very first time using adult cells from the m ammary glands in a process called nuclear transfer. The sheep, subsequently named Dolly, grew normally and fully and went down in History. Since then, scientists have been able to clone further species, even attempting to reproduce extinct animals using the scientific technology to try to save endangered or newly extinct species.Genetic ModificationMuch like the above procedure, many more scientific research projects have come under the microscope in regards to their ethics. One extremely controversial topic is the gene-editing research in early human development which has the ability to modify genetics of a human embryo.Gene-editing could bring an end to inherited diseases but many fear that the science could get out of control and could end up with people making choices about their unborn child that they shouldn't need to make, such as determining their gender, the colour of their eyes or hair, and so on.However, while some may be against the interference of scientists with the hum an body, many great things have come from this research and are still yet to come. Two more significant breakthroughs  in Biology are the research into stem cells, which enable doctors to treat blood disorders or cancers,  and the biomedical research which has led to robotic limbs being controlled by the brain using neural signals. The latter is particularly exciting for our war heroes who have lost limbs whilst risking their lives on the front line for our country.Famous BiologistsWithin The Field Of Infertility TreatmentGoing back to the breakthrough and development of IVF, Robert Edwards should not go unnoticed. Edwards was awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his contribution towards the development of the biological process.Carl Wood, however, was equally as important and as a result was dubbed ‘the father of IVF’ after having pioneered the freezing and thawing of embryos.Genetic ModificationMore recently, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2007 was awarded jointly to Oliver Smithies, Sir Martin J. Evans and Mario R. Capecchi for their discoveries of principles for introducing specific gene modifications using embryonic stem cells. While their research was carried out on mice, this huge breakthrough marked a big milestone in understanding the role of our genes and their significance. What Is The Nobel Prize For Physiology Or Medicine? The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine is an award presented each year by the Nobel Foundation to recognise the outstanding discoveries in the field of biological sciences and medicine.Worthy scientists are awarded a Nobel Prize for their discoveries in Science. Improving Sight Reading as a Beginner Musician

Improving Sight Reading as a Beginner Musician Suzy S. When it comes to reading music quickly and effectively, your ability to sight read is fundamental.   Think about it like learning to read a book as a child.   It may have been difficult at first, but eventually, you learned how to quickly recognize letters, sounds and words.   Similarly, reading music is something that needs continual practice especially when you also have dynamics and tempo changes to keep in mind! Last week we discussed some advice for singers on interpreting music with things like enunciation, attitude and internalizing the lyrics.   But where do other instrumentalists fit in?   To get you started, youll always want to begin by scanning the piece of music and taking note of the key signature, time signature, tempo, melodic patterns and overall structure.   Look ahead for any complex rhythms or accidentals, so they dont catch you off guard.   If this seems too overwhelming at first, dont worry!   As an absolute beginner, simply sight reading the rhythm and notes is a great place to start.   Eventually, youll work your way up to recognizing the smaller details in the song. As you go along, here are some great tips to keep in mind when you practice sight reading, courtesy of FluteTunes.com: 1. Keep a steady tempo. Make sure that you are always counting, even when you have a rest. You must know where you are in the piece at any given time. While you cant expect to play with 100% pitch accuracy, tempo and rhythm should be maintained at all costs. Notes can be sacrificed, but time cannot. While practicing, students often “woodshed” the notes first and then strive for correct rhythm. This can prove very harmful in the long run, because rhythmic accuracy should always take precedence over pitch. This is a great time to practice with a metronome.     2. Making errors. Right before you start playing, you should promise yourself that you are going to get to the end of the piece without ever stopping. People like sight-reading to be done without interruptions, even if it goes a little bit wrong in the middle. So if you make a mistake, just keep going, as if you were playing in an orchestra. Serious students tend to strive for perfection and feel dissatisfied if they cannot play a passage free from errors. For effective sight-reading, however, we must temporarily set aside our goal of perfection and accept the likelihood that errors will occur. 3. Breathing. For wind and brass players, its easy to make errors while sight-reading just because you may run out of air in the middle of a phrase. Since you cannot plan breathing in advance, you must learn to spot phrase endings while playing them for the first time, and to breathe without breaking the musical continuity. 4. Stay concentrated. Keep your eyes on the notation at all times. Never look away from the page. Keep your head and body still. 5. Relax! Tense muscles make the music harder to play, so try to keep your fingers, hands, arms and body as relaxed as possible.
